Polish Girl – Neon Indian

Hello everyone, I am returning from my sabbatical of work, work, and more work to share with you a song that has been in my head for an entire week.   This song comes to you from the band Neon Indian, out of Denton, Texas.  These guys almost epitomize the genre of “Chillwave”  To quote Wikipedia directly, “Chillwave, sometimes also referred to as Glo-Fi, is a genre of music where artists are often characterized by their heavy use of  effects processing, synthesizers, looping, sampling, and heavily filtered vocals with simple melodic lines.” You’ll get it when you listen to the track. These guys are similar to one of my other favorite bands, Crystal Castles.  As my brother describes this genre of music as “glorified 8-bit”  it tends to sound like you are listening to some good electronic music while your little brother plays his NES at full volume in the next room.   Give this one a listen, it’s pretty catchy and has been ringing through my head for the last week.

Cheers,
~Brian

On the Beach – Armin van Buuren’s “A State of Trance 2006″

Armin van Buuren

Hello all,  I figured I’d post something that I will undoubtedly listen to at least 3 times through this weekend while relaxing on what is looking to be a glorious 4th of July Weekend.  If you have had anything to do with the Trance music scene over the last ten years, you will undoubtedly have heard the name Armin van Buuren.  For those of you who haven’t heard of him, he is the worlds most popular DJ for Trance/Dance music.  This particular mix of his starts out awesome, ends pretty awesome, and in the middle… it’s still awesome.  One of my favorite mixes to date, layered with chill Piano and Strings, and laced with hard hitting bass lines that we all have come to expect out of anything Electronic. I know it’s a long track (1:13:37 or 73 minutes for those of you who’d prefer it that way) for you all to listen to, but I urge you to give it a listen, I know it will live up to the expectations that I have just implanted into your mind with this wall of text.

PS:  As I will be without the common amenity of the internets this weekend, I will be unable to post until I return on Tuesday the 5th.  Hoping everyone has a most enjoyable and safe Holiday weekend.
