Soundset 2011 Preview – May 23, 2011

We’re mixing it up this week by previewing Soundset Music Festival, which goes down this coming weekend out at Canterbury Park in Shakopee (which Ross and I have press passes for hehe). Organized by Minneapolis’ own Rhymesayers Entertainment, this is the fourth annual festival which features some of the best independent hip hop from across the states. This year, some of the big names include Big Boi, Blueprint and Curren$y just to name a few. Of course, no Rhymesayer’s festival would be complete without performances from Minneapolis greats Atmosphere, Brother Ali and P.O.S. who will all take the stage at one point or another Sunday afternoon.

This week we’ll be featuring tracks from some of our favorite Soundset artists in order to get pumped for this festival. If this lineup is something you can’t pass up, head on over to the website below and pick yourself up some tickets, they are still available!

Our first track for this week comes from Amityville, New York hip hop group De La Soul, who are known as one of the pioneering alternative hip hop groups. Enjoy!

Today’s track comes from Big Boi and was one of his biggest hits over the summer.  Check out “Shutterbug.”

Check this sick track by Sab The Artist, one of the original founders of Rhymesayers.  Enjoy “Half Full.”

Here’s one of the coolest beats from Royce Da 5’9″ from Slaughterhouse who are performing at Soundset this year. Check out “Boom.”

Take a listen to this funk track from one of Rhymesayers’ best, “Uncle Sam Goddamn” by Brother Ali.

This group, Soulcrate Music, comes all the way from South Dakota.  This song is called “Sleep Awake.”
