Girl and the Sea – The Presets

Hello everyone, today’s post was inspired by a good friend of mine.  Victoria was an exchange student from Australia, and she introduced me to this Australian duo.  This song is my favorite by them and was released in 2006 as part of their album Beams.  This electronic duo hail from Sydney, Australia and their blend electronic beats and lyrical style sum up to a musical style that gets my feet tapping.  Going forward I definitely foresee myself listening to these two a lot more often.  Give it a listen, rate, and subscribe.

Fire – Kasabian

Hello everyone, it’s with much personal pleasure that I bring this song onto the blog.  These guys are from Leicestershire, UK (which seems to be becoming a theme with my posts of late) and have been around for almost 15 years.  For anyone who is as addicted to watching the EPL every weekend, they’ll know this song by heart as it’s played behind highlights at half-time.  I had been listening to this song for years before I even looked up what it was.  I will say that after listening to this song behind the cheers and shouts from the crowds at The Emirates, Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge, etc. , this song isn’t quite as good without said cheers.  It still holds up though.  This particular track, “Fire” was released as part of their album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, which dropped way back in June of 2009.  I urge you guys to check these guys out as their one of my favorites at the moment.

Kissing Families – Silversun Pickups

Hello again (3 for 3), today’s track is form the alternative rock group Silversun Pickups.  Although this song is very far from being a new track it holds a place very close to my heart.  The simple guitar chords and lyrics layered in front of this song make it simplistic bliss.  Nikki’s voice stretched over the drums and bass line make parts of this song almost seem ethereal.  The lyrics are particularly striking and as they mean different things to everyone, I won’t elaborate what they mean to me, you can discover what they mean to you by simply listening to this song.  These guys are awesome in concert and have a particular energy that not alot of bands these days have.  This particular song comes from their first ever release way back in 2005, an EP titled Pikul.  Give these guys a listen and post back with your thoughts.

Cheers,

~Brian

He Films the Clouds pt. 2 – Maybeshewill

Hello everyone.  First off, let me wish you all a very happy new year.  That being said, we at LoneScientists have decided to start off the new year right.  We may have gotten a bit lazy / busy, but that’s in the past.  It’s a new year, full of new opportunities and plenty of time to bring you the best music we can find (opinionated of course).

The first song of 2012 is “He Films the Clouds pt. 2” by Maybeshewill.  They are an instrumental group from Leicester in the United Kingdom.  They formed in 2005 and have released 3 albums and an EP.  This song comes from their first album Not for Want of Trying.  Listening to this track and it’s interminglings of the simple piano with the progression into a deep and dramatic.  My favorite part in the song comes at 3:10, when the distorted guitars stop and the piano part kicks in and as it remains simple, the vocals on top of this simple phrase are extraordinary and inspiring.  The first time I heard this song I was visibly shaken.  Give it a listen and post your comments

Le Disko – Shiny Toy Guns

Morning everyone, today I’m bringing a track from the Los Angeles based Indie Rock Group, Shiny Toy Guns.  These guys formed back in 2002, and since then they’ve been pumping out awesome songs.  I honestly don’t know why it took me this long to post them.  This song, “Le Disko” off their 2006 album We Are Pilots, is an hard hitting electric song that makes me want to jump around and get naughty, but just when I’m about to throw my TV across the room, the song becomes soothing.  So on this Thursday get ready to almost break some shit.

Kids Don’t Follow – Pink Mink

Hello everyone, I have to make this short as I need to go to bed because tomorrow is the first day of classes.  But I wanted to post this song because I can’t seem to get it out of my head, and I find that it’s hard hitting and fast pace is a perfect complement for a day like tomorrow.  I recommended Pink Mink to Ross a few months back.  “Kids Don’t Follow” is also off of their self-entitled album which dropped near the end of June.  These guys played at SoundTown this year, an indie-rock music festival in Somerset, Wisconsin, which I was unfortunately in too hung-over, as it was the day after my Twenty-First birthday (thank you Eric for that awful shot of Pinnacle).  I plan on going to their next local show, which unfortunately looks like it may not be soon as they don’t have any upcoming shows listed on their website (Hopefully I’m wrong).  Anyway this song should get your school year started out right with a song that really makes me want to smash something.

Polish Girl – Neon Indian

Hello everyone, I am returning from my sabbatical of work, work, and more work to share with you a song that has been in my head for an entire week.   This song comes to you from the band Neon Indian, out of Denton, Texas.  These guys almost epitomize the genre of “Chillwave”  To quote Wikipedia directly, “Chillwave, sometimes also referred to as Glo-Fi, is a genre of music where artists are often characterized by their heavy use of  effects processing, synthesizers, looping, sampling, and heavily filtered vocals with simple melodic lines.” You’ll get it when you listen to the track. These guys are similar to one of my other favorite bands, Crystal Castles.  As my brother describes this genre of music as “glorified 8-bit”  it tends to sound like you are listening to some good electronic music while your little brother plays his NES at full volume in the next room.   Give this one a listen, it’s pretty catchy and has been ringing through my head for the last week.

Cheers,
~Brian

Hello everyone, today I’m bringing a song from the french Electronic duo Justice.  “Genesis” is the first song of their album Cross which dropped in 2007 which is a continuous track of electronic rock.    These guys are so successful they frequently tour with Daft Punk, the originator of this genre of music.  Check it out!
